Sharon Horgan thankful she didn’t skip Carrie Fisher’s final dinner

Actress/screenwriter Sharon Horgan is grateful Carrie Fisher made her feel guilty about trying to cancel dinner plans on her final night in London, because it was the last meal they would ever share.

The Star Wars icon had been in the British capital to promote her recent memoir, The Princess Diarist, and film episodes of comedy series Catastrophe, in which she portrayed the mother-in-law from hell, starring alongside co-creator Sharon.

Carrie had plans to meet with her co-star and author Salman Rushdie, an old friend, for dinner on the final night of her trip on 22 December (16), but Sharon reveals she nearly pulled out of the gathering because she was too hungover.

“It was the day after our last day’s filming of Catastrophe and I was monstrously hungover and tired and incapable,” Sharon explains in a piece for The Guardian. “I tried to cry off and she reminded me that she had dragged her a** all the way out to Hackney (in East London) to see me the week before and I should return the favor. So I did. Thank the dark lord, I did.”

Carrie flew back to Los Angeles on 23 December (16), but suffered a heart attack mid-flight and died four days later, on 27 December (16), aged 60.

Recalling her friend’s sharp wit, Sharon adds conversations with Carrie were “always entertaining and wise and scattershot and full of quips and quotes with a dash of subliminal therapy”.

“There was pain there, and responsibility, and her own demons,” she wrote. “It added up to a head full of aggravation, as well as incredible anecdotes. I asked her when she ever got to have a moment of normal. She pointed at me and then back at herself on the sofa and said: ‘Doing this.'”

Fisher’s family was plunged into sadness again the day after Carrie’s passing, when her mom, Hollywood veteran Debbie Reynolds, also died, aged 84. A double funeral is reportedly set to take place for mother and daughter in Los Angeles on Thursday (05Jan17).

Carrie Fisher’s sister knew Debbie Reynolds wouldn’t survive losing her daughter

Carrie Fisher’s half-sister Joely knew the actress’ mother Debbie Reynolds would not survive if she lost her only daughter.

The Star Wars icon, famed for her role in the franchise as Princess Leia, was hospitalized on 23 December (16) after suffering a heart attack onboard a flight from London to Los Angeles and died four days later, on 27 December (16).

Movie legend Debbie promptly shared a message of thanks to her fans for their “thoughts and prayers” after the 60-year-old’s passing, but the following day, the 84-year-old also died after suffering a suspected stroke.

A joint funeral is reportedly set to take place in Los Angeles on Thursday (05Jan16), when the actresses will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Carrie’s half-sisters Joely and Tricia Leigh Fisher, from singer Eddie Fisher’s third marriage to actress Connie Stevens, will be among the mourners at the private ceremony, and they have opened up about their tragic loss in a joint interview for America’s ABC News.

During the chat, which aired on Tuesday (03Jan16), Joely Fisher recalled spending Christmas (25Dec16) by Carrie’s bedside, honoring a promise the siblings had made days before the star’s hospitalization, and sitting with Debbie made her realize how fragile the veteran actress’ health was, too.

“I remember just holding her (Carrie’s) hand and just telling her that we were there, that we would make sure her daughter (Billie Lourd) was whole, which she will be,” Joely explained. “I sat with Debbie, and she said… she was praying for more time. She kept saying that she wanted more time, and I knew that if Carrie wasn’t going to survive this, that Debbie would not. You knew it.

“You could feel it in her tiny, little, beautiful body,” she continued. “You could see it in her face. She would not last without her on the planet, she wouldn’t. And she didn’t.”

Tricia went on to reveal her niece, Carrie’s daughter Billie, has managed to hold herself together fairly well throughout the double heartbreak.

Heaping praise on the Scream Queens actress’ strength, Tricia said, “Billie was handling everything. She’s an amazing, soulful, smart girl. She was obviously rattled to her core, it’s her mum, but she was handling it.”

The same can’t be said of Joely, who previously admitted she was “inconsolable” following the double loss.

“I’ve been having an out-of-body experience,” she shared of her grief. “The world lost Carrie, and Debbie of course, but (Carrie was) Princess Leia and we lost our hero. We lost our mirror.”

Tricia added, “We had the coolest big sister in the world. She was a bad a**… gun-toting princess. Who had that?”

Mark Hamill pens farewell letter to Star Wars co-star Carrie Fisher

Mark Hamill has bid farewell to his Star Wars co-star Carrie Fisher in an emotional goodbye letter.

The actor, who played Luke Skywalker in the franchise opposite Carrie’s iconic Princess Leia, penned a tribute to the actress, who died last month (Dec16), for The Hollywood Reporter.

Remembering their time together, Mark explained that getting Carrie to laugh was like a “badge of honor”.

“She was so committed to joy and fun and embracing life. She had an Auntie Mame quality to her. I would do crazy things to amuse her on the set,” he wrote, before recalling a hilarious incident while they filmed 1980 movie Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back.

“Once at lunchtime she said, ‘You should try on my jumpsuit.’ I said, ‘The one-piece white jumpsuit? You’re what, 5’2″? I’ll never get in!’ She said, ‘Just try.’ I put on that Princess Leia zipper jump suit and it was so tight I looked like a Vegas lounge singer,” Mark continued. “If that wasn’t ridiculous enough, she had me put on one of those bald cap masks with the Bozo hair and glasses and nose and then she walked me around the back lot.”

Mark and Carrie starred as brother and sister on screen in three original movies in the franchise, before reprising their roles in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Acting alongside the actress, who passed away aged 60, four days after suffering a heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles, was a hugely enjoyable experience for Mark, who considered Carrie “family”.

“I’m grateful that we stayed friends and got to have this second act with the new movies,” he concluded. “I think it was reassuring to her that I was there, the same person, that she could trust me, as critical as we could sometimes be with each other.

“We ran the gamut over the years, where we were in love with each other, where we hated each other’s guts. ‘I’m not speaking to you, you’re such a judgmental, royal brat!’ We went through it all. It’s like we were a family.”

Billie Lourd breaks her silence following mother and grandmother’s deaths

Actress Billie Lourd has reached out to her fans and thanked them for their support following the deaths of her mother Carrie Fisher and grandmother Debbie Reynolds last week (ends30Dec16).

The Star Wars actress passed away on 27 December (16) after suffering a heart attack, and the next day, Fisher’s movie star mother Debbie Reynolds died following a stroke.

Family spokesman Simon Halls released a press statement on behalf of Billie shortly after Fisher’s death. It read: “It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8.55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”

The 24-year-old has now broken her silence on social media by penning an emotional tribute on Instagram.

“Receiving all of your prayers and kind words over the past week has given me strength during a time I thought strength could not exist,” she writes alongside a picture of herself as a young child with her mother and grandma. “There are no words to express how much I will miss my Abadaba and my one and only Momby. Your love and support means the world to me.”

Meanwhile, Lourd’s uncle Todd Fisher recently confirmed the family is planning a joint funeral service, which will honor the bond between mother and daughter.

“It’s what we want to do, but we’re still working on the mechanics,” he said. “I’m going out right now to look at places… We like the idea, if it’s at all possible. I think it’s appropriate.”

There are also plans for a second larger public memorial, where fans can pay their respects and say goodbye.

Todd has been spotted visiting the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles, where many famous figures have been buried. Debbie has a family plot there, according to TMZ.

Before his mother died, Todd told ABC News he was letting Billie make the big decisions about her mom’s memorial service.

“Carrie loves a good party, so, you know, I’m sure she’ll want to throw a party for her,” he said.
